Keeping with the MCU film release dates, my third custom for the MCU Avengers OG6 would be Natasha Romanoff aka The Black Widow! Nat started out simple with the plan to make the Infinity War figure resemble the classic comic colors of black and gold. With the figure being primarily all black, I simply had to repaint the stingers gold. As I was doing this, I kept getting bothered by the costume design of her wearing wedges. Although it looks good on her from a fashion standpoint (and also provides a height boost to make her not seem too short alongside the boys of the team), I prefer my Black Widow to be practical in a fight. Her new flats came from a Black Series Rey (Jakku) which I then painted black to match the entire costume. Another issue with the Infinity War Nat is that it doesn’t have guns. I managed to secure cast guns but then another issue came with the hands that were only able to grip her batons. Since the figure didn’t come with guns, it made sense that the hands didn’t have the trigger fingers extended. I cut a space in between the hands’ index and middle fingers and tried the heat and cool technique but this didn’t work out well. I then noticed that the Rey figure had trigger finger hands and their size also fit the Nat figure well (unlike the other hands I had around and tried out). With that, the only modification left was making the holsters for the guns. Although the figure came with holsters for her disk shooters, I prefer her to have guns so I replaced those with gun holsters I made using faux leather. I also gave her a silenced pistol from a Revoltech MGS Peace Walker Snake. It was then time to paint the green vest and instead of just painting it black, I decided to add red accents as well as gold for the zipper and buttons. I liked the final result more than I expected. I thought it gave a more superhero look rather than a spy look which I originally intended to keep. With that, I also added red on the figure itself, particularly her elbow and knee pads. I also added gray accents to add life to the almost all-black outfit. As a final touch to the vest, I added sheathes made of faux leather on the back for her batons. I had an extra set from a quantum suit Nat so I cut one set short to have a collapsed version which would fit the sheathes on the back of her vest perfectly. With the figure mostly good to go, it was time to work on the heads. I initially planned to have three heads, each with a different hairstyle and hair color. One would have been black as a tribute to her first appearance as a villain, the Infinity War head would have kept the blonde, and the quantum suit head would have the full redhead instead of the mixed one. However, I was unable to secure a third head so I just opted to have the red hair but just in different lengths/styles. Now instead of the usual deep red hair that she usually has in the comics, I decided on a much lighter shade similar to her hair during Winter Soldier. And with that, Black Widow is complete! ![]() |
