I didn't have a comic book luke cage in my collection so I decided it was time to try to make one. I liked the Doc Samson upper torso because a t shirt was sculpted well. Many people have suggested using the old DRAX figure because the head sculpt is close and you can use the pants(and even belt) So my first attempt at cracking open a figure.... wow was it a lot of work. The torso joint inside DOC samson was built like a tank. So I cut, used my dremel, and even drilled to get him to come apart. The drax torso was nice and easy to pop apart. I inserted a bolt into the pants/lower abs of DRAX. I used hot glue to create a rubber socket inside Docs upper body so the bolt head would have something to pivot onto. After priming and 7 coats of yellow...(maybe 8 or 9 in some places)it was starting to really come to life. I decided the final touch should be the arm bracers he wears sometimes. So I sculpted those onto his arms last. Overall happy with how well this came together. I have a few more Doc figures(people sold these loose for cheap money years ago) and on my next attempt I'd like to do a more Thunderbolts Luke look. Please wait... |

Finished with the sculpted bracers.
Luke Cage comparison
Side by side with the only Luke i had in my collection.
Pieces coming together
Like putting a puzzle together. I wasn't sure if it would all work until I could finally put them together.
Early stages/concepts
It took so long to get the DOC figure apart I was near giving up, but finally apart, just needed to crack DRAX open and see if the pieces fit.
