Here’s my Modern Update of Moltar(Brother of Crystar).Crystar and Moltar are very dear to me. My family vacationed in Germany for 2 months one summer when I was 10yo. I wasn’t necessarily a fan of this toy line when I was a kid, but they were very popular, and most boys in my home town had a few of these. By the time I saw these in Getmany, they were LONG past their zenith of popularity in North America, but they were cool enough to pick-up to amuse me on train/car rides across the German countryside. Crystar and Moltar were my constant companions on that family trip, and became very dear to me. Some old guy at a Comic Con once told me that the vintage figure of Moltar was supposed to be translucent-orange, but the plastic they were gonna use was too brittle, and the Moltar’s spikes were prone to snapping, and posed a laceration-risk. I dunno if there’s any truth to his tale, but it kinda stuck with me. When I did my preliminary google research, I noted that most volcanic-rock is carbon or black in colour, so I chose to make his armour black, with volcanic uclerations revealing his brimstone interior. I embedded miniature amber-gems with a mirrored back to mimic his brimstone vents. I had a Inhumanoids figure as a kid that used a similar effect. It’s hard to tell in the photos, but this figure is really quite dazzling when the sunlight reflects off the gems, it rally looks as if light is issuing from his vents! Hope you enjoy!
