Anybody remember that electronic Batmobile bootleg from way back in the early 1990s!? It was aptly called Super Bat Car. A battery powered knockoff of the Burton / Keaton original that had light up rockets inside the machine gun chamber at the hood and could rotate in 360°.

While touring my old bedroom down memory lane at home, my mom revealed that she still kept it inside my old closet. 20 plus years later, the car no longer starts and it has some missing parts and some wear and tear and scuffs all around. Due to the fact that my nieces and nephews played with it for as long as I was away. My wife suggested that I take it with me. Not for the sake of nostalgia and childhood memories, rather for restoring it and remodeling it. And since there is no Burton / Keaton among my collection. It was high time to make my own...or...more likely...to restore that old beast.

I took all the electric out after disassembling the car. Including tyres (taking them off was torture to my hands and fingers.) Made in Taiwan may not sound that much of a quality product, but one thing is for sure: those folks knew how to assemble robust materials, bolts and screws onto toys. And they have earned my respect.

One of the side exhausts went missing and since there was no spare parts to find online, I had it replicated via a 3D printer. The canopy/cockpit door had to be cut with a precision saw so I could built a driver seat and console (taken out of a Kenner Kilmer Batman Forever Batmobile. I have a bundle of these laying around as spare parts.)

The body is spraypainted in a metallic black/brown paint to make it look like a bat. The plastic wheels have been replaced with rubber wheels and rims. I added a bat logo onto the hood out of a bat grapple accesory from the Mattel 2000s Batman line.

Last but not least...I added LED lights to the front and rear including an on/off switch.

While this work is not 100% perfect, I am pretty satisfied with the work I have put into. That was a lot blood, sweat and tears. A childhood companion has been restored and renewed. Its has no monetary worth, but rather a personal and emotional one. A part of childhood that has returned in a good way. And it's here to stay.

Hope you enjoyed this presentation and the story behind it.

Have a great week's start everybody and stay healthy and safe.
