I really wanted a decent Thanos figure and I wasn't very impressed by the Marvel Select release. I also decided to go with his new costume rather than the classic blue and gold he's been wearing since the 70s. As long as he was wearing that he was never going to move beyond the Infinity Gauntlet.

I cut and dremeled the face and hair off so that I had a clean head to start building on. The head was sculpted in layers so that I could build up some depth as I wanted his eyes to be set deep back from his brows and his mouth to stand out.
All the detail is sculpted with milliput or dremeled into the original figure. His loin cloth is paper hardened with PVA and superglue. Tamiya paints cover the super papier mache well and give it a plastic finish. I had intended to use the papier-mache for the material draping over his shoulders, but I went with a sculpted one instead so that I could show detailing as if the material was resting on top of the buckles round his shoulders.
