For me, someone who has yet to actually sit down and watch Iron Blooded Orphans all the way through, the final battle of the anime is by far the most iconic depiction of Barbatos Lupus Rex, having one that was all clean and shiny didn't feel right. So, I took the High Grade Barbatos (the much cheaper option) and built it straight, then I popped the left arm out and discarded it. I took strands of Jewelry Wire and twisted them together at one end, and glued them into the eye section as well as to the "ear" panels for support. I felt like the wire included with the kit was far too short, so I took some black Jewelry wire and glued one end into the blade section and one into the back. I wanted his right arm to look as if he had just punched through another Mecha's torso and ripped its cockpit out, so I dragged a toothpick dipped in black paint down the arm and hands until I was satisfied with the "runny" appearance. I also painted all of the yellow sections of the armor Gold, because I felt like if I was putting so much effort into the rest of it, the cheapness of the yellow would just clash. At the end of it all, I took a paint brush and smeared the black paint onto newspaper, and then blotted it with paper towels, before blotting the paper towel onto the figure to prude the battle damage appearance. Finally, I did a similar trick to the one I used on the body on the mace with a silver color to immitate scratches in the metal, before coating the edges in oil-like black. I hope you guys think he's as cool as I do! ![]() |
