Combining two of the most popular characters from within the Marvel Universe, Venompool is a distinct and strange mash-up. The idea of Deadpool combining with Venom first appeared during the 2011 volume of What If? as a recurring back-up story in the multiverse exploring series,. At the end of every issue in the miniseries, Rick Remender and Shawn Moll's story continued showing an Earth where Wade Wilson was hired to kill (but ended up befriending) the Beyonder. When Spider-Man confronted the Beyonder about removing the Venom symbiote, the two were separated and Wade ended up combining with the symbiote while Peter Parker fell to his death.
