I had some old WWE figures laying around that my wife found really cheap at a yard sale. One of them actually had really similar articulations to the Marvel Legends toyline, which my son loves (...and so do I). It was a Shawn Michaels figure, that I had posed in my computer room, jobbing to The Iron Sheik (since he was the only figure I had with an ab crunch suitable for the dreaded Camel Clutch). He was really tall, so I measured him next to a bunch of ML figures, and determined him the perfect height for Sabretooth (6'6"). The Figure had really baggy pants, and not nearly as much muscle detail as I would want from a Sabretooth. He is not anywhere close to the perfect base figure, except for his height, but he was cheap and already laying around the house, which is what I prize most when it comes to my base figures. So I took my exacto knife and sand paper to Widdle the legs down thinly. Trimming the legs and joint gave the figure more range on the knee bends, and the huge joint used for the knees gave similar range of movement as double knee joints. My son had an extra Sabretooth head that was included in a lot of marvel Mashers. The hands are from a random 5 inch Marvel figure with enormous hands, that my son never plays with. This is my first Custom figure, by the way! I sanded and widdled the legs months before I even had any materials. I only had an exacto knife and some sand paper. Once tax time rolled around I ordered my materials, and was prepared to put all that tutorial reading I done beforehand to use. I sculpted the muscles on, which was my first ever experience with Apoxie sculpt. Sprayed with a white primer from Army Painter. Used Vallejo paints and Tamiya clear paints. I used Vallejo silk sealer for the joints (the shoulder hinge and bicep swivel still rub.) I'm super happy with the way it came out. My wife was seriously doubting my skills when she saw the figure after the widdling process. The look of disbelief on her face after seeing the finished product was worth it. My son loves it too. He knew that I had planned on making it, and has waited months to play with him. If you have any questions, comments or critiques, I'm happy to hear from you! ![]() |
