MOT is the Phoenician god of death, filth, human creation, and the underworld. Mot's main nemesis is the storm and male fertility god BAAL, his brother, and every fall during the equinox BAAL is murdered by his brother MOT and dragged deep into the underworld. At which point BAAL'S wife ASTARTE (goddess of love, war, female fertility) goes on a rampage through the underworld to resurrect him and kill MOT, thus the winter solstice, and is brought back to the earth for the spring equinox to bring new life after the harsh winter. MOT is also referenced in the old testament, and is referred to in alchemical symbolism as Sulfur, as he was to smell of filth and rot. An interesting character in ancient mythology and culture.
