Ira Quimby was dubbed as the villainous I.Q. by his evil gang because, well, those were his initials (it was the 60's, times were much simpler--Bob). Like many villains of the time, he was an evil genius who turned to a life of crime. A life that often led him into conflict with Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Due to exposure to an alien stone, Quimby found that sunlight (again, simpler times) helped raise his intellect, so once he escaped from prison, his crime spree could begin anew. Later on he was one of many scientist kidnapped and brought to Oolong Island as a member of the Science Squad, which was kind of like DC's A.I.M., I guess. Later on after that, he aided Prometheus, but we don't like to talk about that because, as much as I love James Robinson, that was one of the worst atrocities committed in DC during my life time (along with Identity Crisis!). While Ira didn't have the most unique costume, I tried my best to be faithful to his appearance. Thankfully a DCUC Captain Boomerang offered a slender body with sleeves that already had the folds to represent his jacket. So the chest was modified and sculpted, while maintaining the Boomie scarf. The head was from a DC Direct Alex Luthor, with sculpted hair as per requested by the customer who commissioned it. The goggles were a combination of DKR Catwoman glasses, and a press mold of a DCUC Dr. Mid-Nite eye pieces. The gloves and the rocket shoes were also sculpted, while the rockets were made from moldable plastic. Again, not the most exciting of costumes, but I think I managed to remain faithful to his look. Thanks for looking! ![]() |
