I gamified my classroom a few years back and this year my students are battling on a giant game board complete with castles, monsters, etc. With Stranger Things being so popular, I have incorporated several monsters and elements from the show into our game board. We've got an Upside-Down section of the board with Demogorgons, Demodogs, and the vapor-form of the Mind Flayer, but we did not have the flesh form. I had tested a recipe for large flesh and bone monsters using hot glue, packing styrofoam, Easter eggs, and random skeleton pieces, and thought this would work well for the fleshy Mind Flayer.

The only pre-made pieces on this figure are the head and body of the build-a-figure Trench Warrior from the Aquaman figure series. I had an extra set of those and thought the head and chest would make a cool build. I then used wooden dowel rods to build the legs and coated everything with layers of hotglue and paper towels. Once covered, I then used the cut up skeletons and cut styrofoam pieces for the bones and flesh. Once these were added, I used a mix of dark scarlet paint with modge podge and covered the entire body. For the head I used a fine hot glue gun, finger pieces from a small skeleton hand, and again, bits of styrofoam for the head. It is not an exact match to the show, but it works. In reality the jaws can open on different planes, but I am satisfied I still have jaw and neck articulation. For the tentacles I used twist-ties and hot glue. Everything was washed with a black wash and high-lighted with a lighter red. The whole build took a Sunday afternoon.

It may not be perfect but it was a fun build and it makes some truly wicked pictures. I think my students will be very satisfied with this foe on our battle board! Thanks for viewing!
