So, since I am a big fan of the classic "Saga of the Super Sons" from World's Finest Comics written by Bob Haney, I decided that since I had already done my favorite of the Super Sons, Superman, Jr., I should round out the Superman Family of those stories and make Superman himself as he appeared in those stories.
So, to do this figure, I took a DC Universe Classics/Signature Super Powers 30th Anniversary Superman figure, and used the boil and pop method to remove his head. Next, I used my Dremel to sand down the ball joint attached to the Superman figure's neck into a cylindrical post. Once the cylindrical post was formed, I next used my Dremel to partially hollow out the head of a DC Direct Silver Age Superman Series 1 Superman Robot figure. Next, I mixed up a small batch of Milliput and jammed it into the newly formed cavity inside the head, and, while the Milliput was still soft, I jammed the cylindrical post attached to the neck of the Superman figure into it to create a small hole in the center of the head cavity. Once the Milliput had dried, I test fit the head onto the neck, and satisfied with how the head and neck fit together, I glued the head in place atop the neck post. With the new head now attached, I applied two coats of Testors Model Masters Dark Ghost Gray at the temples just above the ears to give the figure a little bit of a distinguished, older look. Once the Dark Ghost Gray had dried, I applied two generous coats of Flat Clear over the hair. With the paint and the Flat Clear on the head now fully dry, I glued new symbols onto his chest and cape (both symbols were made by hand at a larger size, and then photocopied and shrunk to proper size...however, unlike previous hand drawn symbols I had done before, these are drawn with a slight curve to each of the sides as well as a slightly smaller size to more closely match the look of the "S" symbol of the late Silver Age/Bronze Age of Superman stories), and TA-DA...Superman as he appeared in the classic "Saga of the Super Sons" stories of the 1970s!!!
