Here is the wall of prophecy/mural from Clive Barker's 1990 monster film, Nightbreed. The mural is featured heavily during the opening credits and is seen during the film a few times. The onscreen mural was created by legendary concept artist Ralph McQuarrie of Star Wars fame. This is a remake, as my first attempt was very unsatisfactory due to some mistakes in the art and warping from overheating. Since I had to redo it, I opted to extend the wall from two panels to three. I used three figure display bases from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer line, held together with epoxy glue and reinforced by epoxy putty. I drew the first two-thirds of the mural way back in 1990, and I kept the sketch. I made copies of the sketch for use on the diorama. I colored the entire thing with very sharpened Prismacolor colored pencils, a very time-consuming effort. The drawing was destroyed when I decided to take apart the original diorama and redo it, so I had to take one of the copies and color it again, making it better in the process. For the last third, I drew a new piece taken from images seen during the opening credits. Once finished, I sealed them. The middle base piece had major warpage, so I had to use epoxy putty to smooth out a new flat surface, then sand it down. To make the rocky base, I glued lots of leftover figure fodder I had collected from years ago that were no good, then thickly covered it in Sculpy, creating the desired look. The candles are from the candle stands that came with The Master from the Buffy Line. The large flame on the left came from a torch from some unspecified figure display, while the one on the right I made out of a hat with two torch flames cut and glued inside. I figured out where the cubby hole needed to be, drilled it out, then used a hollow handbag that came with a Giles figure from Buffy, reinforcing it with epoxy putty on the back side. I cut out my drawings and glued them to the surface with a glue stick, slicing a hole in the paper where the cubby hole was and folding the flaps inside. I went back and added a thin line of Sculpy to the top edge of the rocks, covering the bottom edge of the paper so that it looked like one wall. I very carefully dried the Sculpy with a hair dryer, this same process being what heavily damaged my first diorama attempt. I used Valejo paints to paint the base and trim the edges, as well as repainting the candles, then sealed it and dull-coated it. I hope you all enjoy it!
