I've decided to start trying out more diorama pieces, and this was the first trial run. The idea behind this one was a lone stormtrooper wandering the brush and fauna of an alien planet on his own. The base itself was 3D printed, then spray painted black as a base. The top was painted green, grey and brown in the necessary places. Then the foliage was slowly added as I went and thought it out. The stormtrooper was a Christmas ornament, originally. Base measures a bit over 4 inches by 4 inches and the whole thing is between 5-6 inches tall. My biggest mistake/improve was the pool in the middle. This was mainly a test run for me to try out clear resin as water and the middle pool was supposed to be more like a clear green pool of water. However, I didn't remove all the air bubbles correctly and it started to cloud as it dried. I tried to use a heatgun to make them rise and pop, but it caused a little foaming. Seeing what it was doing and that I couldn't really fix it, I decided to just keep adding more air and to make it bubble into a foam substance while it dried. Not what I originally envisioned, but to be honest, the overflowing green foam against the natural looking plant life makes it feel 'more alien' than regular water would have looked. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it! ![]() |
