Here is my custom 12 inch figure of Cobra Commander, which is based on his design seen in issue 1 of the GI JOE comic book from Marvel Comics. I always liked the more militaristic dictator style uniform for the Commander as opposed to the light blue jumpsuit. I decided early on to use the head from the 1991 Hall of Fame figure, with a few changes. I used the dremel tool to enlarge the eye holes and to substantially shorten the length of the hood. I also used the 1991 Destro human head, as I hated the Cobra Commander head with the weird exaggerated eye. I cut a red cloth to make the mask around the lower half of his head. I wanted gauntlet gloves, so I opted to use a GI JOE Fire Fighter body for the base. Since I was using the outfit that came with the Hall of Fame figure, the costume looked baggy. I added a bullet proof vest under the shirt to help bulk up the body a bit to better fill out the costume. I used red striping tape on the ends of the gauntlets for the perfect effect. I used gold gift rope purchased at Hobby Lobby to make the ceremonial cords on his shoulder after cutting off the cheap looking cloth one. The belt came from a GI JOE vs. COBRA Destro figure. The staff came from a Cobra Commander figure from the same line. The boots and other accessories are from Dragon. Please check out my other GI JOE custom figures! Please wait... |
