Based of a short story I wrote back in college. Gladfinn was the best elven warrior of his time. When his wife and daughter were captured and brought to Cirith Ungol ,he departed alone for the mountain keep. Battling his way to the endless stairs and beyond. In a fit of rage Gladfinn kills most all the orcs responsible for his wife and daughter capture. As he questions the leader about his loved ones and learns they were fed to the masters pet, Shelob. With his world spinning he dosn't notice her as she creeps up behind him and adds him to the collection in her liar. He doesn't die with out a fight and causes most of the damage you see on her face when she attacks Frodo and Sam many years later. Since he did not return Círdan warned the elven council there must be a terrible danger in that mountain pass into Mordor.
