Daniel Craig was the most unlikely choice for James Bond in 2006. There had just been a hugely popular run (if not critical hits) by Pierce Brosnan, so a 5’11” blonde Bond was a little out of left field. But his performance in the superior Casino Royale dispelled any thoughts that Craig was a wrong choice. He returned the character to its pulpier, hard edged roots, as he led a sleeker, stripped down franchise arc that ultimately produced middling results (more on that later...)
