SPOILER ALERT Krall is the despotic ruler of the small planet of Altamid. He is a mysterious alien who attacks the starship Enterprise in an attempt to recover an ancient alien artifact called the “Amorath” stranding the crew on his planet. But Krall has a secret: he has an intimate understanding of Starfleet. Krall is actually Captain Edison of the USS Franklin which crashed on Altamid over one hundred years ago. He has used the ancient devices left on the planet to drain the life force from any humanoid creature keeping him unnaturally alive. This causes him to take on the appearance of whatever creature he has consumed. When we see him in the final confrontation with Kirk, he has drained the life force from some Enterprise crew members giving him a nearly human look again.
